Tiffen Neutral Density 3.0 Filter

Do you need an IRND FIlter?

Please Note - this filter operates in the Visible Spectrum - if you intend taking long exposures with a digital camera make sure your camera has good internal InfraRed (IR) filtering otherwise your images may have a colour cast due to the poor internal IR filtering in your camera. The image sensors in camera are sensitive to infrared light- using a 10-stop filter effectively increases the amount of IR in proportion to visible light by around 1000x and hence the colour cast if the cameras internal filter is not sufficient. In this case you need to use the TIffen IRND 3.0 filter which has 10-stops of ND into the IR Spectrum or the Tiffen IR ND HM (Hot Mirror) which reflects IR and is the best option for long exposure photograph.

The Tiffen ND 3.0 is a Neutral Density filter providing 10-stop exposure absorption. The high density blocks light emission of the visual spectrum into the camera, allowing you to photograph with a much slower shutter speed or at a wider aperture than required. This gives the photographer two techniques; the filter is ideal then for long exposures in which anything with movement in the image is desired to appear blurred. The second is in which the photographer needs to use faster or more wide open lens apertures to create less depth of field.

  • Reduces amount of light passing through camera lens without changing color of scene on film cameras.
  • Especially useful in bright light conditions to help prevent overexposure; balances exposure
  • Eliminates overly bright, washed-out images
  • Controls depth-of-field
  • Allows slower shutter speeds to produce blurred motion effects
  • Can be used for Infra Red Photography if used with IR capable lenses and digital cameras which don't block IR
